If you don’t read it, Bulldogs Blog is one of the best sources for breaking Georgia Bulldog info. It’s written by David Hale of The Macon Telegraph.
Anyway, Mr. Hale reconciled his 2008 predictions with reality and while it was interesting reading, he darn near made me lol with this bit…
PREDICTION: Tim Tebow will not win Heisman No. 2.
VERDICT: Correct. The greatest player of our era made things interesting down the stretch but was upstaged by two Big 12 quarterbacks. But how many Ukrainian prisons has Sam Bradford visited?
Has anyone ever gotten such flack for being a “good guy”? I feel like layin’ off a little until I remember the last timeout the Gators called to rub the salt in down at Alltel. So I say keep ‘em coming.

Bernie thinks so and lays it out in this great post that delves into the state of all things Georgia.
The heart of the matter:
Honestly, this really hurts the Dawg defense. I realize that Stafford and Moreno were star players and accounted for just south of 90% of the offense this past season. And I also realize that replacing them will not be easy.
But for my money, losing Asher is a much bigger hit to a team that needs defensive leaders returning. Allen is an experienced cover corner that subscribes to a very physical style of play. His stats were down this season (only 44 tackles and no INTs), but he played the last five games with a broken hand. (Note: Allen had an INT against the reptiles, but a penalty negated it. What else?)
I tend to agree and I believe that Willie Martinez just ran to get some more Pepcid.
Allen is the kind of guy fans take for granted. Flashy stats? Nope. Why not? Probably because opposing QB’s have been learning all week to throw to the opposite side of number 2.
Good luck Asher Allen.

Ching shares his thoughts on Asher Allen:
And because of that departure, I’d say the secondary is much less stable entering the spring. They lose Asher and CJ Byrd, who were probably the two most consistent performers this past season, and are left with very little proven talent. I have no idea who the starting corners will be against Oklahoma State. Probably Prince Miller, but then who? Brandon Boykin? Vance Cuff? Sanders Commings? I don’t know that Bryan Evans is moving back to corner because it sounds like Willie Martinez liked what he was doing at safety. So who? Branden Smith? That’s a lot to ask, but I’m betting he’ll get a long look if he signs and is ready to go when he arrives. I might be crazy, but I think the void Asher leaves creates more questions than the ones left by Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno.

One of Knowshon’s signature moments. Also showed up on most year end highlight montages.

Georgia reached out to Avon, Indiana and got a commitment DE from Montez Robinson, formerly an Auburn commitment.
Robinson is an explosive playmaker who has a big frame to grow into. He is quite athletic and quick for a 6’5″ player. He may not be an instant contributor for UGA, but given time and proper coaching, he could be a lineman similar to Quentin Moses in that both possessed great rush speed and burst off the snap.
Robinson was originally committed to Auburn, but rescinded his commitment after Auburn and then coach Tommy Tuberville parted ways. He chose the Dawgs over offers from other schools including Alabama, Illinois, Louisville and Purdue, among others.
Who said firing Tommy Tubberville was a bad idea?

I don’t think so, but apparently he is still mulling it over…
Allen, via Felton, declined an interview request until making his decision. A junior from Tucker, Allen last month asked an NFL advisory committee for a projection of his draft status.
Allen is a two-year starter for the Bulldogs. He played the final four-plus games of the 2008 regular season with a broken bone in his right hand. The injury was fully healed for the Capital One Bowl.

Dantzler has a nice post on the Stafford and Moreno NFL decision. I chuckled when I saw this line:
Unfortunately, he also goes down as one of the worst redshirt decisions in college football history. Georgia’s magnificent Mark Richt admittedly made a major mistake not playing the phenom as a true freshman, and the Bulldogs got only two years out of this unique talent.
Then I cried. Richt, what were you thinking? Imagine redshirting A.J. Green. Ridiculous right? The Moreno decision was it’s equal. Sigh.
