Mark May Disses Stafford, Gives Knowshon Love, Puts Beanie in His Place

Fri, 16th January, 2009 - Posted by - (2) Comment  |

Mark May thinks Mark Sanchez had, like, a totally awesome Rose Bowl and is, like, 6′ 3″, so will obviously be a better college QB than Matthew Stafford. Then, just when you think he is going to put the knife in Knowshon, he puts it in Beanie Wells. He was pretty tough on ole Beanie too… questioning his durability and toughness. Ouch love… veeery ouch.

Spare yourself the Sanchez highlight reel and zoom ahead to the 2:00 mark.

Allen a Bigger Loss Than Moreno or Stafford?

Wed, 14th January, 2009 - Posted by - Comments Off  |

Bernie thinks so and lays it out in this great post that delves into the state of all things Georgia.

The heart of the matter:

Honestly, this really hurts the Dawg defense. I realize that Stafford and Moreno were star players and accounted for just south of 90% of the offense this past season. And I also realize that replacing them will not be easy.

But for my money, losing Asher is a much bigger hit to a team that needs defensive leaders returning. Allen is an experienced cover corner that subscribes to a very physical style of play. His stats were down this season (only 44 tackles and no INTs), but he played the last five games with a broken hand. (Note: Allen had an INT against the reptiles, but a penalty negated it. What else?)

I tend to agree and I believe that Willie Martinez just ran to get some more Pepcid.

Allen is the kind of guy fans take for granted. Flashy stats? Nope. Why not? Probably because opposing QB’s have been learning all week to throw to the opposite side of number 2.

Good luck Asher Allen.

Derrick Favors to Announce Tomorrow Night

Tue, 13th January, 2009 - Posted by - Comments Off  |

The top basketball prospect in Georgia and the top center prospect nationally will announce his decision tomorrow night.

South Atlanta center Derrick Favors, the No. 1 basketball recruit in Georgia, will announce is college decision Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., according to his high school coach, Michael Reddick.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Just really down on UGA hoops at the moment.

Why 2008 was kind of a letdown for the ‘Dawgs

Tue, 13th January, 2009 - Posted by - Comments Off  |

Tim Tuckers says it in his latest UGABlog post:

In another stat that dogged Georgia’s defense this season: The Bulldogs finished 72nd among major-college teams in sacks, getting an average of 1.77 per game. No. 71 was Alabama, getting 1.79 sacks per game. No. 1 was Texas, 3.62 per game.

And one more thing that jumps out at me from the final NCAA stats: The teams that played for the BCS title — Oklahoma and Florida — finished the season as the nation’s top two teams in turnover margin. Oklahoma gained 23 more turnovers than it lost, and Florida gained 22 more than it lost. Georgia finished 73rd in turnover margin, losing three more than it gained for the season.
