Bobbie Massey, a five-star 6-foot-8 335 lb offensive tackle from Hargrave Military Academy, has cancelled his visit to UGA scheduled for this weekend.
Kit Kitchens lets us know why Massie was less of a want and more of a need:
The news does not bode well for UGA as signing Massie would have really bolstered an already solid class of offensive linemen. After last season’s injuries, UGA has pursued a long list of offensive tackles to help with depth in case starting tackles Trinton Sturdivant and Vince Vance do not return completely healthy from their ACL tears.
This is more bad news for Georgia’s late stage recruiting efforts. Though this class may yet prove to be strong, it has taken a beating this past week.
Starting with Cameron Kenney, a Dacula native, committing to Oklahoma and continuing with the news that Toby Jackson had failed to qualify for this year’s class.
That news was followed up with Stephen Hill, a Lithonia WR, solidifying his commitment to Georgia Tech after a late pitch from Georgia.
So, who’s left? Jarvis Jones, Marlon Brown and Greg Reid. Jones and Brown are bona-fide long shots, and Reid is looking like a coin toss.
It is looking like we may pull an 0-fer and crawl across the finish line.

Well that stinks. I thought we were in good position with Massie. Damn you Saban and your Crest white strips and just for men sponsorships.
I agree about JJ and MB. I would be shocked if we land either of those. We seem to be in pretty good shape with Reid but something tells me he’ll end up at FSU.
Agree with everything you said dean.
Starting to get the feeling we are going to get shut out
At this point if we just landed Reid I’d be happy.

I kinda wonder how the commitment of Braden Smith will factor into GR’s decision. Rivals has Smith as an “athlete” but most project him to be a corner. I hope he sees the chance of playing early when he looks at our depth chart. With Evans being moved to one of the safety positions and Allen jumping early we’re thin at cornerback.
On a separate recruiting note I believe we’re still in the running for Orson Charles. Although, again, what does the commitment of Arthur Lynch do to his decision making process. Hopefully nothing but you never know.
“Though this class may yet prove to be strong, it has taken a beating this past week.”
I always laugh when I read quotes like this from Georgia fans. Either you have a very short memory or you haven’t done your homework.
THe class is already strong, even without a commit from Reid, Massie, or Brown. We’ll still finish ONCE AGAIN in the top 10. 100 other Div 1 schools would kill to have the players we have & finish in the top 10. We rarely ever have big January recruiting coups because we (traditionally under CMR) finish the bulk of our class early on.
And have you forgotten already that these last few schoolys weren’t even available until just a month ago? Would you have still made that comment? I doubt it.
The facts is friend we do and will finish with a damn fine recruiting class, regardless of whether the last minute kids come to Georgia.
Oh and you left off several names on your list oddly enough. Forgotten about Starling, Orson Charles, Kwame Geathers already?
Most expert believe we definitely get Starling & are leading w/ Orson. Oh, and for what its worth, even Bama coaches have been saying we’re a lock for Marlon after meeting with him.
Enough with the gloominess – the FACT is that we have a damn good class and will still finish in the top 10. But more importantly, even without last minute signings, we’ve addressed our needs. Even Kit points out that Massie would’ve been gravy.
Ally-
Well said. No doubt we already have a superb collection of Bullpups that will be the envy of almost every D1 program in the country come Wednesday.
Also true that the perception people develop about a class weighs too heavily the decision of the few that holdout until national signing day.
Still people (myself) included can’t help but measure a class against what might have been. Silly for sure, as you are never gonna get all of them, but it was just a situation where the promise of landing some or most of these prospects seemed to be disintegrating within a couple of days… hence the malaise.
I certainly made the mistake of implying this class wasn’t strong already and you’re right for taking me to task on it.
Thanks for your participation!
