Thursday’s Bulldog Bytes

UGAVJeff Owens has been typing away on his tiny iPhone keyboard. He gives love to the unsung athletic trainers who work diligently behind the scenes and has published a fresh player Q&A wth Tony Wilson.

A great tale of sportsmanship from a high school basketball game.

Seems like there is a growing number of folks in the media thinking that this Kiffin kid may actually be smarter than we all think. Pfffft….

AthlonSports profiles Georgia’s 2009 recruiting class. They ranked it 8th, 3rd best in the SEC.

The coaches pick the Diamond Dogs to unleash the power of their new Easton bats (scroll down, permalink is broken) and win the Eastern Division.

Jeff Dantzler has some great perspective on the upcoming football season over at Bulldawg Illustrated’s Dawg Blog.

It looks like it will be just one more day before Kwame Geathers makes his decision between Georgia, Tennessee and Central Florida.

Mark Richt has a blog. Subscribe!

Speaking of Coach Richt… he’s promised M.L. King RB Mack Brown the number 33 and called him a “helluva back“.

LB Darryl Gamble says there is a new culture taking hold in locker room this year.

LOST continues to bring “teh awesomez“.

Owens’ blog is awesome! Also, along with Mettenberg’s mention of better senior leadership this off-season, Gamble’s quotes are becoming a trend. That could be a very good thing.
Great blog!

I agree that Kiffin is a pompous SOB but he is not a fool. All of these infractions he is committing are so small and so insignificant that the NCAA can’t punish him for it. They seem so deliberate that its conceivable that he planned this just as a publicity stunt. Now if you are talking about if its going to back fire in his face – I think that is a different story.
After reading that SI article, it seems that he calculates everything. It wouldn’t shock me if it was just for publicity. This could make him a turn out to be a genius or he could turn out to be an absolute moron.

@will Thanks for the compliments! I’m with you, I think the 2009 Dawgs are capable of surprising a lot of people.

@Bill in Sandy Springs I need to read that piece in SI. An extended trip to Barnes and Noble may be in my future :)

I do think that it’s working with some kids and he’ll attract recruits for a couple of years with this schtick. However, i think he needs to win fast to make it maintain his credibility.

Just IMO of course.

After last Georgia football season when I told everybody that Georgia was going to win it all in 2008, I am cautious to make Guarantees like- Lane Kiffin will fail or he will not.
If he does fall he is going to fall hard and so are all of the Vol fans who are drinking the Kiffin Kool Aid- unbelieveable and unwaivering devotion to this loser.

Question- Is there a visiable monument outside Sanford Stadium to honor Dooley or past great players?

I know that their is a ring of honor but you have to graduate and its located in between Stegman and the practice fields.
There is also something inside Butts-Mehre for recruits and current players to see but is their any Wall of Fame or any kind of monument for the fans to see at Sanford Stadium on Fall Saturdays in Athens?

RidgeDawg February 19, 2009

@Bill in Sandy Springs All I found info on was the statue of Dooley that is on the corner of Pinecrest and Lumpkin.

See link: http://www.ajc.com/uga/content/sports/uga/stories/2008/11/27/georgia_vince_dooley.html

Nothing at Sanford Stadium that I know of. At least not the way I walk in :)
