The state’s No. 1 basketball prospect is headed to Georgia Tech.
Wearing a blue-and-gold tie, Derrick Favors, a 6-foot-9 center from South Atlanta High, announced his choice Wednesday in a ceremony in Buckhead televised live on ESPNU. His other finalists were Georgia and North Carolina State.

The top basketball prospect in Georgia and the top center prospect nationally will announce his decision tomorrow night.
South Atlanta center Derrick Favors, the No. 1 basketball recruit in Georgia, will announce is college decision Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., according to his high school coach, Michael Reddick.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Just really down on UGA hoops at the moment.

The AP has there report on today’s Georgia-Tennessee game.
Key passage:
Georgia took its last lead at 74-73 with 3:17 left. The Bulldogs were held scoreless for 3 minutes as the Vols scored the next 13 points.
Georgia’s Ricky McPhee hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds for the Bulldogs’ first field goal since a jam by Jeremy Price with 8:08 remaining.
Essentially, no field goals in the last 8 minutes.

Bulldogs fall apart down the stretch and fall to Tennessee. Oh well. I really, really want Georgia to have a great basketball team with a passionate following. The SEC tourney title was just a mirage…
